Jet2 to move call centre from South Africa to Leeds
Oct 17, 2013 209 view(s)Jet2.com, one of the fastest growing airline is now moving over its call centre operations in South Africa to Leeds. Jet2 is going to invest £9m in developing a new training academy for pilots and crew.
Founder and chairman of Jet2.com, Philip Meeson told in a business audience in Leeds today that the company has created more than 500 jobs in Yorkshire this year. But the two new latest developments will generate more than 80 jobs locally.
Along with the existing call centre staff, support of total 200 people will be available to both Jet2.com and Jet2holidays customers. 525 new roles has been created by the company in yorkshire this year, making it one of the region’s major employers.
The call centre in South Africa will now move to the firm’s new 71,000 sq ft headquarters at The Mint in Leeds later in this month. The call centre will relocate from Leeds Bradford Airport to The Mint too. The new Jet2.com Training Academy will be based onthe euroway industrial Estate, in Bradford.
It will include three flight simulators along with a cabin unit in order to provide training experience to both the new recruits and existing pilots and crew across the company’s eight UK bases.
The building construction will be started in the next couple of months as their aim is to have the academy will get ready for spring 2014.
Mr. Meeson further added that “The main centre of our business is mostly in the Yorkshire, we are extremely proud to announce further expansion in the region, by providing even more jobs for this talented local workforce.
“As we continue to grow our future business investments, we would include centralising our call centres in the city and developing our own purpose built training academy for our pilots and cabin crew.
“This year is the another successful year for us.” With our eight UK bases we are expecting to fly 5.5 million passengers to and from 61 different locations.
“Our clear commitment for further developments states that we are states that we are giving the people the best possible service and great value flights and holidays to the Mediterranean, Canaries and top European cities.”
The announcement was made by Mr. Meeson at the Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce annual lunch. More than 300 attendees were present at the event at the Queens Hotel in Leeds.
