A strike from Anglo American Platinum ended up after the world’s biggest platinum producer and its largest unions at its South African operations have compromised over their plans of great job cuts.

The strike continued upto almost two weeks and finally reached a settlement statement.

World’s top platinum producer has declared a loss of around 44,000 platinum ounces due to the strike which had started on September 27.

AMCU (Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union) workers stopped working last month after the company declared the dismissal of 3300 employees considering it as a part of its restructuring process.

Amplast said in a statement that the legally the strike had ended up after 11 working days.

“According to the settlement done, 3300 workers who were handled their dismissal notices are now allowed for voluntary separation packages.”

This included the type of workers who had not taken up previous offers of redeployment, voluntary separation or early retirement.

Chris Griffith said that “According to this latest agreement, no reductions will be necessary after the redeployments and voluntary separation packages.”

Due to this deal around 1250 workers of the affected 3300 will be kept on for six months. While others will be kept on the basis of contract basis after the termination of their full time jobs.

The union have confirmed that the strikes are now ended and the workers will soon return back to their work, Amplats has been passing from these kind of stoppages since last year.
